SAX14 International Saxophone Festival Amsterdam brings the best saxophonists in the world to the Netherlands. Three of them – including Branford Marsalis, artist in residence at the festival – will be guests at the gala concert with works from the saxophone repertoire.

Saxophone giant Branford Marsalis is heard in the first saxophone concerto by Sally Beamish, English composer with whom  Marsalis frequently collaborates. Classical saxophone legend Claude Delangle presents Frank Martin’s Ballade for saxophone, and the virtuoso Arno Bornkamp plays a work by Santiago Baez based on Bizet’s music for the play L’Arlesienne. This festive SAX14 concert opens with Milhaud’s stirring ‘La création du monde’, and ends with ‘Sax Heroes’, a piece specially composed by Philippe Geiss for SAX14, in which the sax soloists of the evening join forces with the Dutch Chamber Orchestra.
